Teaching practice second phase week 3

 Teaching Practice – Week 3 (24–28 November 2025)

During the third week of my second phase of teaching practice at Government HSS Koickal, Kollam, I continued to handle the classes assigned to me with greater confidence and clarity. As the school is moving closer to the examination period, there has been a noticeable sense of seriousness among students. Teachers, including myself, are giving special emphasis to revision, concept reinforcement, and focused study. Students are also showing a sincere attitude towards learning, making the classroom environment more productive and goal-oriented.

A significant highlight of this week was on Thursday, 27th November, when I had the opportunity to take a special NMMS scholarship coaching class from 3:30 pm to 4:20 pm. The topic for the session was Acids and Alkalis, an important concept that forms the foundation of many higher-level chemistry lessons. The session was interactive, with students showing genuine curiosity and responding actively to questions. I used simple examples from daily life—such as lemon juice, vinegar, baking soda, and soap—to explain the nature and behaviour of acids and bases. This helped students connect scientific ideas to real-world experiences.

Reflection

This week allowed me to see the changes that occur in classroom dynamics as exams approach. Students become more attentive, and the teacher’s role expands to include guidance, motivation, and academic support. Taking the NMMS class was a meaningful experience because it required me to adapt my teaching to a mixed group of learners preparing for a competitive exam. I realised the importance of pacing the lesson, breaking complex ideas into smaller parts, and checking understanding frequently.

The session also helped me improve my confidence in teaching beyond the regular timetable. I felt satisfied that the students were able to grasp the basic differences between acids and alkalis and apply the information in simple problem-solving tasks. Overall, Week 3 strengthened my belief that effective teaching is a combination of planning, patience, and continuous reflection.
