School induction programme ( November 4 to 8)
School induction programme ( November 4 to November 8, 2024)
In alignment with our B.Ed syllabus at FMTC Pallimukku , we were granted a valuable opportunity to take part in a five-day induction program from November 4 to November 8, 2024, at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Koickal. This program was designed to give us, as first-year B.Ed students, hands-on exposure to the inner workings of a school environment. The primary objective was to gain insight into the everyday operations within a school encompassing classroom management, teaching practices, administrative roles, and student interactions.
Our group included eight students from three optional specializations—English, Natural Science, and Physical Science. Representing the English department were Krishnendhu U, Sreelekshmi S, and Manjima M, while Fathima Hamid and Haleema Noushad represented Natural Science. ThePhysical Science department was represented by Athulya S, Mebin Thomas, and Salma H. Throughout the program, we observed various classroom management techniques, instructional strategies, and the overall structure of the school day. We also interacted with faculty and staff to understand the duties and responsibilities that foster a supportive learning environment. This experience offered us a comprehensive understanding of lesson planning, student engagement, and the collaborative efforts necessary to maintain a well-functioning school. And the induction program was a rewarding experience, providing us with a solid foundation and practical knowledge that will be invaluable as we progress in our journey toward becoming educators.
Day 1 ( November 4 ,2024)
The first day of my induction program at GHSS Koickal was filled with curiosity and enthusiasm as I explored a new school environment. I received a warm welcome from the headmaster and faculty members, whose supportive and approachable attitude helped me feel comfortable. The headmaster assigned me a dedicated workspace, making me feel respected as a trainee. The day mainly focused on understanding the school’s daily functioning, infrastructure, and facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, library, and common areas. I was particularly impressed by the well-organized midday meal program and the various add-on facilities related to arts, sports, and technology, which reflect the school’s holistic approach to education and commitment to students’ overall development.
Day 2 ( November 5 ,2024)
On the second day of my induction program at GHSS Koickal, I returned with renewed excitement and a strong sense of purpose. With the guidance of supportive faculty members, I was assigned to Class 8 B, where I was warmly welcomed by curious and respectful students. Their enthusiasm, cooperation, and active participation created an engaging and interactive learning atmosphere, making the experience both encouraging and rewarding. I was particularly impressed by their interest in learning and willingness to share ideas and ask questions. With valuable guidance from the faculty on effective classroom management, I learned the importance of maintaining student focus through a balance of structure and flexibility, and this experience gave me a deep sense of confidence and pride as an educator-in-training.
Day 3 - November 6 ,2024
The third day of my induction at GHSS Koickal was a meaningful learning experience that strengthened my understanding of effective teaching. I gained valuable insights into the importance of well-structured lesson planning, appropriate pacing, and the smooth flow of classroom activities in supporting student understanding. I also learned the significance of maintaining a positive and disciplined classroom environment through respectful interaction, clear communication, and balanced classroom management strategies. Being involved in the midday meal initiative further helped me appreciate the holistic role of a teacher in supporting students’ health and well-being, beyond academic instruction. Overall, the day highlighted the multifaceted responsibilities of a teacher in nurturing students’ academic growth and personal development.
Day 4 - November 7, 2024
On the fourth day of my induction at GHSS Koickal, I had a diverse and enriching experience that exposed me to different dimensions of teaching and student interaction. I attended observation classes of Physics handled by Vrinda Miss in Class 9 and Chemistry handled by Reji teacher in Class 10, which helped me understand how subject-specific strategies and interactive questioning enhance student engagement and lesson effectiveness. Later, I handled a substitution class in 8A, where I independently interacted with students, realizing the importance of adaptability, quick rapport building, and thinking on my feet in the absence of a planned lesson. An equally joyful experience was with Class 5 B, where I guided students in a simple dance activity, embracing their enthusiasm and creativity. Overall, the day highlighted the versatility required of a teacher and strengthened my understanding of the multifaceted role of educators in nurturing students’ academic, creative, and emotional development.
Day 5 - November 8,2024
The fifth and final day of my induction program at GHSS Koickal was a bittersweet experience, filled with both joy and nostalgia. I actively engaged with Classes 8 B, 8 A, and 8 C, each offering a unique learning atmosphere and helping me understand how teaching approaches vary. As the day came to an end, I felt immense gratitude for the support and guidance provided by the faculty, especially the headmistress, Najeema Teacher, whose encouragement meant a great deal to me. Saying goodbye to the students and teachers was emotional, and as I left the school, I reflected on the valuable lessons learned over the five days, which strengthened my commitment to becoming a dedicated and compassionate educator.
