 Teaching Practice Phase I – Week 5 (August 11–14, 2025)


Introduction


The fifth week of our first phase of teaching practice was observed from August 11 to August 14, 2025, at Government Higher Secondary School, Koickal, Kollam. This week mainly focused on regular classroom teaching and the school election process, which helped us gain experience in both academic and co-curricular aspects of school functioning.


Days 1–3 (August 11–13, 2025)


During the first three days of the week, we continued with our regular teaching schedule. Each of us handled the portions allotted in our respective subjects according to the timetable. Lesson plans were prepared systematically, and our mentor teachers provided valuable feedback to help us refine our presentation and classroom management techniques.


Students showed better participation and involvement as they became more familiar with our teaching style. We also took part in maintaining discipline and assisting with routine school activities, which gave us a better understanding of the daily administrative processes of a school.


Day 4 – August 14, 2025 (Thursday)

On this day, the school election was conducted to select the school leaders and class representatives. The event created an energetic and democratic atmosphere in the school. Teachers and students cooperated actively to ensure smooth and fair elections.

We teacher trainees also participated by assisting teachers in the election procedures, maintaining order, and observing the student election process closely. It was a great opportunity for us to witness how leadership qualities and democratic values are nurtured in students through such activities.


Reflection

The fourth week of teaching practice was a blend of academics and co-curricular engagement. We successfully continued our teaching responsibilities and improved our instructional confidence. The school election experience gave us insight into how schools promote democratic participation, teamwork, and leadership among students.

Overall, this week helped us strengthen our role as responsible teacher trainees, balancing both classroom instruction and school community involvement effectively
